Campaign Module 1st December

Today I am going to be creating different types of advertisement and discussing in my group which ones we will be doing for the campaign.

Firstly, I created a spider diagram of the types of campaign there were and the possibilities I would then be working with.

We then had a group discussion about the areas of advertising we will explore and produce them.
These are the types:
posters
assemblys
flyers
facebook group
stickers
newspaper
plasma screen presentation

The first thing we did was generate gurilla ideas, we considered the ones which we could do and the effectiveness of them. I then made a feasibility grid on each of the areas we cold use to advertise the campaign idea.
This grid showed the price it would be to do this campaign, the effectiveness and impact it would have on our target audience and the availability to do this. I then evaluated each campaign low, medium, high depending on the choice.

After doing this my group then came up with a secret campaign idea that we could launch. I think that this idea was good because after we launched it people would be wondering what it was all about and want to know more information - it would get our audience interested. The idea was to get stickers printed of different sizes and create a logo for the campaign. We would then stick them on people and in random places and video peoples reactions to show at a later date. I then researched into the cost of mass printing stickers, overall we found that this would be an expensive of making people aware of our campaign.

Today I am going to be creating a timeline for my job and writing down the key dates during this module. Another thing that I will be doing is more advertising to generate more publicity for the comedy festival.

Firstly I made a paper plan of the key dates in the campaign module and the festival module. I then filled the other weeks in with small jobs i will need to get done within my job role. The things that will be included are mass producing our campaign ideas and then planning things which I will need to complete so I am ready to start my festival module.

Firstly, I then thought of more ideas using a spider diagram to show how we can make people aware of the comedy festival and how we can inject it into the public.

After doing the spider diagram which included ideas like;
- TV
- Word of Mouth
- Radio
- Bus
- Posters (posters had already been printed and distributed around school to raise awareness)
- Billboards
- Newspapers/Magazines
- Whats On Guides
- Gurilla
- Flyers
- Banners
- Song
- School
- Social Networking
After doing this I then decided on how cost effective it was t do each of these ideas, how effective they would be and if this idea was a possibility and I was able to do.

I then came to the conclusion that the most beneficial ideas to do was, word of mouth - this had no price, medium effectiveness and would be easy to do. Also radio, however I would have to look into how expensive this would be. The other ideas were gurilla which we have already worked on like the 'business card' campaign and flyers which are already being handed out.
Another good idea was to create a social networking site on Facebook. I think that this is a good idea because everyone uses this website, people can join the group so we can post things that will be happening and information that they will need.

After doing this I then researched into making a short radio advert to generate publicity for 'LOL'. The things that I thought the advert would have to have is during the commercial airtime it would have to persuade my target audience to be interested in my product (comedy festival) and I would have to then decide when to run the commercials throughout the day and consider the longer the commercial the more memorable it would be. I decided to look at local radio stations in the area because this would be the most relevant target market and the people that would most likely come and view the comedy show.
I then e-mailed 'Capital FM' the south costs largest radio station and stated why we are going to be doing the comedy festival and asking for a quotation about the cost. The reply I received was for 10 second commercials running for 6 weeks and played 8 times a day would cost a total of £4,700. This was way too expensive and not in our price range. This would be an impractical way to advertise our festival.

Strengths:
Today I think that I have shown my ability to contact businesses asking if we could do things for the festival professionally and also been able to plan my time well and devise how I am going to get people aware of the festival and if they are practical and cost effective.

Strengths: I think that I have worked well to generate ideas within my group and did effective planning which was thorough and explained what I would be doing and how for the campaign, In addition to this, I came to a logical decision that the sticker gurilla idea would be too expensive and then thought of other ideas we cold do from the grid I created that would be more feasible.
However, I would like to work better within my group to merge ideas together to make them more successful.

Campaign Module 24th November

Today we are starting a new module campaign. This module is all about advertising and campaigning to raise awareness for the next module - the comedy festival.

This module is about investigating the way in which creative and media techniques and products are used to promote ideas and raise awareness of specific issues in campaigns. I will then be preparing a campaign to promote the festival event.

Today the first thing we did was research into campaigns. I had to find out what a campaign is and why it is used.

Firstly I researched what a campaign is and how they are used.
An advertising campaign is a series of advertisements that share a same, single idea. Advertising campaigns appear in different media across a specific time frame; this is what I am going to be analysing and writing about.

Firstly I made a spider diagram of the main organizations that I could think of that I have hear about. After this I then recorded the individual campaigns that each organization does to raise awareness of it. I made observations on the types of things that they did, how it effected the audience and why they did it overall. These campaigns are the most widely recognised.

I wrote about how they used different areas in the media to convey their message and how they go about doing this. The main things the larger organizations use to advertise is television adverts. They are often comical or hard-hitting depending on subject and get their point across. They are able to advertise on the television because they are larger organization and have the money to do this. However, smaller campaigns use the internet to create web pages dedicated to their campaign and they make flyers which are handed out to the general public, showing their campaign and what they are all about. This is also a good way to raise awareness of a smaller organization who may not have as much money. In addition to this, smaller campaigns are there to mainly raise awareness of what they are all about.

I also analyzed a campaigns posters. I commented of the colours they have used and the font - is it relevant to the campaign? does it look effective? Also, I decided wether the images worked well in the poster, the types they have used and why they may have used these images.

Overall today i have shown strengths in being able to research into the different campaigns and analyzing them in detail. Also, I have shown strengths that I have made detailed documents showing the types of campaigns and developed the ideas further. Finally, I have gained an understanding of what a campaign is and how it is used in the general public.

Scene Module Stage 4 13th October

Today I am carrying on producing my what's on guide. I am expecting to finish the first draft and invite feedback so I can improve on it.

To do this the first thing I had to do was start filling in the blank layout and putting the information into it i needed. I had to research the places that I would be including in the brochure and get their contact details, tel numbers and any events they were having. For example the live music page I used local Live music bars like talking heads, on their website they had a calender of all the events that they were holding and the bands playing. i included this information in the brochure - this would appeal to teenagers and they would have lots of information on what was happening at this particular place. I did this for all of the other venues. The next thing i did was get pictures from previous gigs and included them in the brochure, this would appeal to my target audience.

The next page i did was for compe
titions. This would appeal as the prizes that I included was for a concert to a popular band. I
think that this page is a good idea because it gets the readers involved and the prize is appealing
to my target audience.

After this I researched into the top films coming out in the cinema and made a brief description about them and included images of the films. After this I did the same for theatre shoes, I researched all the local theatre websites and looked in some of their brochures and picked the most appealing shows for teenagers and included a brief description about the show including a picture.

Finally I included a 'must do for 2011' page. This was this events that would be happening throughout England and appeal to my age group. It mainly included music festivals - something teenagers do during the summer.

After had finished I asked my group for some feedback so that I could improve on the design and content. The thing I would change is the colour scheme and make it more eye-caching for my audience.

The next thing I did was change the
layout of the page and add more exciting events and then changed the colouring so it appealed to teenagers more and added background shapes.

Finally, I have now produced my 'What's on Guide' Throughout this module I have planned numerously and changed ideas for the guide.

After creating my guide I then produced a poster to advertise the guide. I did this because it would raise awareness of the guide and show my target audience about the guide. I produced two different types and then analysed them. I then made my final poster.

Overall today I have created an imaginative creative and media guide for my target audience. It shows how I have changed my ideas around to suit my audience and shows a good planning process. I have considered my target audience throughout producing this brochure, which I see as a strength. I have also worked well to produce this in the time deadline. Furthermore, I accepted constructive criticism's about the guide so that I could improve on it, making it more appealing. Finally by creating the poster I have shown strengths in producing posters so that my guide will be known and show my target audience that my guide tells teenagers what is on in their area.

Scene Module Stage1 16th September

Today I am going to be producing a document and researching into the range of creative and media events in a chosen region. (My local area Fareham, Portsmouth and Southampton.)

Firstly I made a spider diagram of the possible areas that I could research into and then went into more detail. This showed all of the areas in this industry that i already knew about in the chosen area before researching into it.

The next stage was to
research into the events and local venues of the creative and media industry. To make it
easier to research I categorized the areas into sections that I would research and then record, for example : radio, television, live music and more.

I looked into the venues that they were held at to see if they were
specifically for that particular event or there were other things going on there.
I then recorded the information into word documents, stating the venue, where it was, what events the venue held and the types of things the venue did.

Finally, I then researched into specific areas for example what types of things were on for teenagers - this was a wide ranging subject and the main events were live music events and under 18 club experiences. In addition to this, I also researched the local festivals that are held and the venues that they are held at.

The next stage in this process was to collect resources that show the activities and events which are taking place in my local area.
I will need to gather this information from websites, brochures, flyers, entertainment guides and flyers. I will then need to record this information into a document showing evidence of what I have researched.

After gathering leaflets, flyers and guides I then analysed the information in them and produced a document explaining the areas in the 'what's on' sections. I had to consider the information that has been included in them, the colour schemes they have used to make it look effective and the layout they have used to show what's on.

Overall, today I have researched into a wide-ranging area of events that came from a number of sources and looked into the venues and different areas in the creative and media events in my local area. I have understood a lot of types of events that area in my area and did not know about them. In addition to this, I researched different materials and analysed them in depth. I have shown strengths in being able to research relevant areas and write about how they are effective.

scene Module Stage4 7th October

Today I will be starting to produce a guide to what's on to my chosen audience. Firstly I made a decision for whom my target audience was - I chose teenagers.

The next stage was to undertake research into the events that would be suitable. I needed to consider my audience, the area it would be held and how much it would cost. I focused my area on Southampton, Portsmouth and Fareham.

I used my knowledge from stage 1 to do this also and used various websites that I had found throughout this module to help me decide the best events to include.

I then made a spider diagram to show the content, what will be included and any other information that will be added.

After I did this I then started to draft what I wanted my poster to look like. I firstly made a paper draft and labeled the colour schemes, images I would use and what would go in each section ( the categories.) This was helpful because it helped me to decide what was going to be included in my poster. After I did this I asked for some feedback from my group and took their ideas into consideration - "look more appealing for teenagers."

After getting this feedback I decided to change the layout from a poster to a brochure. I think that this will have more information in it and be easier to make it look appealing to my target audience.

After this I then began to create another paper draft like before of the brochure. Setting it out so I know which topics I will include and on what pages. I then set a colour scheme that would suit my audience. After doing this I then began creating it onto the computer, I made the basic outlines for the brochure and sourced the images and website information that I would be using.

After I produced this I then made another paper drat with more detail and depth so I can get a better of idea what I will be producing on the computer. Finally, after analysing all of my brochures that i have drafted I chose the best features. These features are what will make up my final brochure design.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
Overall today I have shown strengths in being able to gather information for the guide and took into consideration my target audience and the thing that would appeal to them. I have also produced a well detailed plan and worked well to produce the plans for the guide within a good time scale. Furthermore I changed my original ideas of a poster to a brochure, this shows that I have strengths in recognizing what would suit my target audience more and they types of things that would appeal to them on a wider scale. Finally I have also made several drafts and shown that I have done a large scale of research into my target audience so the brochure will appeal to them.

Scene Module Stage3 23rd October

Today I will be creating a critical response to the show I saw at the Mayflower theatre, Quadrophenia.

Today we had a visiter from the other school doing diploma, Porchester. She is the leader of that school. Firstly we were discussing what we have been up to and the things we have dine so far in the module. After this we looked at out Quadrophenia critiques and started to re-drat them. i re-drafted mine twice after having feedback from Mr Coulson and our visiter. This really helped me improve my work and hopefully get a better mark for the critique.(RL5)

I have had some good criticism today which has helped develop my work and means I have am able to deal with setbacks, criticism and feedback. Furthermore I need to develop my skills in inviting feedback for more things - it will help me and make my work better.

Firstly I wrote down ideas of the good aspects of the show and what I liked and then put things that were bad and could have been improved.

After doing this I then created a draft of the critique. I wrote a brief description of the show and then analyzed it, giving my opinions on the show and things I would have improved. Finally, I then gave it a star rating on how good I thought the show was.

After doing this I then re-read this draft and made notes on the sections that could be improved on. I needed to consider the different aspects involved in creating this show more and assess the lighting and sound more for example.

Finally, I wrote the final draft, setting it out professionally and included a picture into the text. I then took into consideration the feedback I got from some of my group who also read my draft and the notes I made. This improved my critique.

This is the draft of my critique:

Quadrophenia (tour)
Venue: Mayflower Theatre
Place: Southampton
Review Date: October 12th 2009
Rating:

Pete Townshend’s 1973‘s album, Quadrophenia has been adapted to be a Rock Opera and it is now on tour and at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton. With an energetic cast and a rocking live orchestra in the background, this theatre experience is memorable and a must see show!

As The Who was before my time I wondered what the show would entail, furthermore as this show is classed as a rock opera I was expecting it to be a classical musical score with a rock twist portraying a story for two and a half hours. It was much, much more!

The story follows the life of a young man Jimmy, a London Mod (fashion and music obsessed, working class yobs), trying to find himself. This is portrayed by four actors showing the different aspects of Jimmy’s personalities, the romantic, the lunatic, the hard man and the hypocrite. In some songs throughout the story it is often hard to understand which one of the split personalities is being portrayed and some of the action and suspense is lost.

The story continues by following Jimmy, his friends and arch rivals The Rockers ( wear black leather and listen to classic Rock ’n’ Roll) to brighton. With a continuous series of powerful and moving songs portraying the continuous battle between the two gangs. Additionally after Jimmy looses the girl he has lusted over for so long he returns home and his life falls apart. The way the songs are staged by the actors moves the audience with songs such as “Love Reign O’er Me” leaving chills down your spine.

With a moving centre stage which is used to portray the chaos in the story and it is used effectively by the actors and the brilliant scenery is relevant and effective in all scenes, moreover it all adds to the atmosphere built up throughout the performances. The costumes were funky and relevant to this era, they also gave the audience an idea of the difference between the two groups. Furthermore I really enjoyed the dances which accompanied the songs, the choreography was ablaze and satisfying.

However, the opera sometimes overpowered the singers on stage and the story plot sometimes got confusing when scenes changed abruptly. Despite this I feel it was a positive experience and this show would appeal to any of the one who has experienced this era of time and wants to relive it for a night. It also appeals to a younger audience that likes rock music and action theatre, like myself who found it enjoyable and a really super theatre performance.

Overall today I have learned to produce a well presented and written critique, exploring all the aspects of the show and how effective the were.
In addition to this i learned to analyze a show and point out all of the less obvious things (like lighting) and say how they could have bee improved.
I have showed strengths in doing this stage and taken on feedback to improve the quality of my work.
I conducted a well-focused investigation into the show and gave my personal response to the show.
I explained it in detail well and underlined the things that were enjoyable and could have been improved.

Scene Module Stage 2 16th September

I have been briefed about the new module that I will be starting, its all about the creative and media industry, from jobs, what's going on in my local area and reviewing shows. Throughout this module I will be using many skills to research and sources to understand this industry as a whole.

Today I am going to be researching into the types of creative and media jobs available in the South England region. My goal for today is to have made a word document noting some of media industry jobs there are and the the types of qualifications you need to apply for them. In addition to this I will be looking at the types of pay involved in the different areas.

Firstly I made a spider diagram of the overall roles in the creative and media industry. This helped me to name all of the areas I will be researching into depth and understanding all the different areas.

The next stage was to create a more detailed spider diagram into all the jobs in the overall roles of the creative and media industry. For example theatre is a specific area of creative and media and there are many jobs that entail in this area such as lighting, graphics designer, choreographer, actor and many more. The reason I did this was to understand the job roles that i could think of without researching into them and then when researching I would learn of the other various roles which I had not included in my spider diagram.

I then started researching by visiting the job websites such as:
www.monster.co.uk
www.jobsite.co.uk
www.reed.co.uk
www.totaljobs.com
These websites are there for people to put job vacancies and then people can research their specific area and choose the job they then want to apply for.

Overall these websites meant that I could specify the type of job I was searching for and any other areas I wanted to make more specific, such as the type of qualifications you would need for the job and the amount of money you would be paid. This was all included in the websites and it helped me find the different types of jobs.

After doing this, which was a very effective way of finding jobs in my area to my specification I went onto local companies and searched if they had any vacancies. For example I went onto galaxy south coast. This then meant I narrowed my search down to a specific area to analyze the types of jobs there were in my area to do with the creative and media industry.

The next stage that I did was to record the information that I found into a word document, I wrote where the information was from, what the job was, where it was, the company that was advertising and the qualifications you would need to apply for the job. In addition I also added how much money this job offered.

Throughout this stage I recorded my results on to a word document, this includes pictures, information about the job and the source it was collected from. I gathered evidence of this from numerous websites the next thing I will need to do is collect brochures, newspapers, flyers and entertainment guides and leaflets.

I undertook a well focused investigation into the job roles and understood the opportunities in the chosen region. I also made a good ranging summary of the creative and media job roles in this region. I also made detailed explanations of them. Finally, when recording the information I understood the qualifications needed or the types of job available in this industry. Finally when researching for the jobs I made detailed searches and researched predictable roles in this industry and also looked into the more unexpected and unusual job roles.

Overall I have recorded a numerous amount of creative and media jobs and I have shown strengths in how to specify my job search and the ares I can collect this information from . In addition to this, I understand the large range of jobs in this specific industry and know the qualifications which will be needed for each area. Furthermore I have increased my awareness of the range of jobs and roles in the industry. I found jobs that I didn't know about in this specific area of the industry and researched into them. I now know what a large industry that creative and media is and have a better understanding of all the job roles in it. I have sourced many of the jobs from various places and researched into the requirements of the roles.

June

I have changed my idea plan for my video, I am no longer doing what its like to be a girl, i am doing a dog is for life.

I am changing my video idea because I think that it will be more interesting, something that will be more possible to make and a topic which i will find more interesting creating.

The things that i have changed today are the mind map and adapt it to how i want my video to look like and all the other aspects that will need to be changed.

Firstly I started by creating a detailed mind-map of the ideas for the video. I then went into further depths and considered all the aspects with this video. I analyzed the problem when making this video and considered all the things I will need to do to create it. After this i made another story board exploring what i want to include.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
Today I think that I have used my time effectively when changing my design. I have produced all my planing and ideas. However, I think that i should have been sure on my original design before planning it into more depth.

PLATS;
IE5 - considered the influence that this will have on my video by changing it
CT6 - adapted my ideas as my circumstances have changed
CT5 - tried alternative solutions and followed ideas through to make it better
SM1 - showed flexibility when my priorities change (changed my video ideas)
EP2 - discussed my concerns with my original idea and seek to find a resolution by changing my video idea.

Anthony Batchler may

Today we had Anthony Batchlelor from city eye - a film company. He helped us by giving a brief talk about how to plan for a video and the stages we will go through to then be ready to start filming footage for the video. At the beginning of this module, I did not know what I would be doing for my video, however now I have 5 ideas which are possible. This gave me a better idea into what my video could be like and how I will be doing them.

http://www.city-eye.co.uk/ ( Link to website for "city eye")

I chose to use the idea of "what it's like to be a girl" - a film about the different stages of a young girls life and the things two different girls go through in the different parts on the social hierarchy . My message was not yet clear at this point and was something I still needed to work on however it will basically be showing how people shouldn't judge someone if they don't know what they are going through.

Today I worked well because I selected ideas which could all potentially be good videos, but I think I should have been more confident with putting ideas forward and had a better idea of which was my favourite before asking for imput. I would like to improve my skills to evaluate my own idea, as I strongly rely on the oppinions of others and find it hard to know if what
I think is the best idea. I managed my time well because I only had just over an hour to come up with all four ideas - which I did without any problems.

19th may

Today I am making ideas for my video. This means I will be mind-mapping ideas and then putting detail into them. This means including images to give an idea about what the video will be about, where it will be filmed, the purpose of the film, who the audience is and other aspects such as how I am going to make it and the entertainment twist to the film if there is one.

Firstly i mind-mapped about how I am going to make my video,
this included aspects such as;
*hair, make-up and outfits
*software
*issues i will need to consider when making the video
*the subject in my film
*legal issues
*end editing
*location
*my time scale

the next mind-map that i made was to do with the issues into further detail about;
How I'm going to do my video
*time scale
*software
*location
*the subjects in my film
* the purpose of my video
*what im going to do in my video
* what the film is about
* the way I am going to film it

By making these mind- maps it helped my generate ideas to do with my video and how i am going to do this video. This helped with how i am going to do my video.

Also, today I created a storyboard on all the stages and clips that I want to include in my film. This will be a step by step plan so that I know all the things which will b included in the video. This shows that I have displayed a disciplined approach to planning my video making process.

In addition to this I have now made effective use of my mind map to refine outcomes and generate ideas showing good understanding of strengths and weaknesses.

PLATS;
IE2 - planned my video in depth
CT1 - generated ideas and explored the possibilities and all the things that I could do in my film
SM4 - assessed all the risks that I will be taking in this module by making this video
EP2 - explained in the mind-maps and shown how i will do them.

14th July

Today I am editing in some more footage which I have taken and then put in the correct places it will be most effective in my video.

Firstly, I went the the Ark, Stubbington. This is a place where abandoned cats and dogs are rescued,
looked after, homed and then re-homed.

I began with getting my consent form signed so the footage that i will be shooting is allowed to be shown. Next, I was taken on a tour around the premises and explained all the areas and given a few facts and statistics which i can use during the video. The next thing I did
was film buildings and signs showing what the places were and what was in the different buildings. The next thing I did was get shots from inside the buildings where the dogs were kept. I filmed a shot walking down the rows of cages of dogs - I think this will be an impact clip into the reality of abandoned dogs.

The next thing i did was interv
iew someone that worked there and worked with the animals, in analyzing their behavior. I think that this was a good idea because it gives the video evidence of what is happening to the animals and makes it seem more reliable and informative. I had prepared questions to ask so that I could get the answers and information that i wanted.

When editing this section in my video, I cut some of the excess shots and errors in the speech where the information was boring, not useful or had things like background noise like other people talking. I then split the clips and separated the different types of question and the put them into different parts of the film. I did this because i wanted to spread the interview throughout the video so it wasn't boring or go
on too long and loose the audiences interest.

Also, today we went to Portsmouth live tv and learned about how they make their films, how they produce them and how they shoot the films. In addition we learned about all the things that you need to do to make live TV successful.

Today I think that I have come up with ideas to make my video more varied and exciting like splitting clips up and putting the video in different orders. Also, I have learnt different camera shots to use for effect.

7th July

This is the final day for editing and checking that my video is well done. In the afternoon I will need to add the credits, titles and backing track that i want to put into my film. then i will review my progress and evaluate everything i have done so far this module.

Firstly, I researched into possible songs to use in my video, they need to be suitable and portray the emotion that I want my video to have on the audience. I looked on the internet and watched some animal cruelty adverts and then researched songs on youtube that I thought were possibilities. i then asked for some input from some of my diploma group who gave me some ideas on artists and bands to use.

Finally, I decided on Jason Miraz, Belief. This song has lyrics which relate to my video well and give of the emotion on sadness and makes the audience feel sorry for
the animals.

The next thing that I did was re-edit some of the clips that could be edited better an
d also made sure that I had detached all of the clips where i did not want the sound. After this process was complete I then watched some of the other videos and mine was watched - it was given good and bad feedback and how I could improve some things for example, making the font more read able and larger. I think that this helped make my video better.

Today I think that I have been well organized and met all of my targets that I set this morning, also I have managed to finish the majority of the film and I now need to add more credits and the last bits of footage into areas where there needs to be more footage.

30th June

Today I will need to upload the new footage which I will have filmed - this is the final week for filming so I need to make sure that I have all the footage I need for my film.
I will then need to edit it together and make sure that all of
the sections flow and are no errors in the cutting of clips.

Firstly, I edited my footage which I had already uploaded, I cut clips (deleting any footage that
was not useful and irrelivent.) Also, I detached sound on some of the footage of any of the background noise which i did not want.

After doing this i reviewed my strengths and weaknesses so far and evaluate my progress. Today I think that I have worked well with the video program - IMovie. I have edited my video well and so it looks professional - there are no errors or glitches in the footage which I have edited together today. For progress next week, now I know how to use the program more I need to edit more footage together to get it done on time.

Also, Antony batchler will be coming in to review our progress and teach us some advanced editing skills to improve my work. He taught us how to use green screen for effect and told us about the types of effects that we can use on the slides - i found this helpful and was useful to me. He also helped used our video cameras, we were taught about cut aways this technique will be helpful for me to use for my video.

Today I learned that using a tri-pod makes it less shaky and more clear. Also when interviewing they interviewee' must be at eye level with the camera and the questions must be so they answer it within their answer so they can be cut out.

PLATS;
EP3 - learning how to use a tri-pod for better quality
SM1 - using the video camera was a new challenge and I made learning how to use one a priority.
CT2 - ask questions about how to extend my thinking and get answers that will benefit me.

Record Module - 9th June

Today, my goal is to have chosen my final video for this module and plan it into further depth. To do this I will need to make mind maps and plans describing all the things that will be included into my video.

Firstly I made a mind map exploring all the things that will be need to considered in making th video, these things were;

- what am i going to do in this video
- the way that I am going to film it
- the locations that I am going to be using
- the purpose of my video
- who is going to be in my video.

I then made a second mind make going into further details about these things...

- issues that I need to consider when making this video
- legal issues that will be needed to cover when making this video
- equipment that I am going to use
- end editing
- hair, make-up and outfits
- software I am going to use
- the subjects in my film
- my time scale
- locations and if it is possible to get there.

After doing this I need to look into the legal aspects; I will need to create forms for my subjects to sign so that I have permission for the footage to be shown.

After I drafted this I then created a storyboard that included timings, locations, what's happening in that part and the people I will need to involve so I can start filming. I did this by looking at my mind-maps and then developing them into a storyboard.

Today I think that I have worked well to develop my video ideas and make them into a good plan which is something which I can then read and be able to shoot easily. In addition to this, I have considered all the aspects to my video and considered things that are possible to do in my video and some which are not. Overall I think I have shown some good strengths today by organizing my video into detail.

Record Module - 26th May

Today I am going to be having a workshop with Anthony Batchler - from Citieye. He is going to help us develop our already done parts of the video and tell us how to improve on it. Also, he was going to discuss our video ideas with us and help develop them.

Firstly I presented my video ideas to him and explained all the things and aspects I would need to do to make the video. The feedback which I got was positive - I have good ideas and I need to develop them more by making a story-board of each stage in the video so that I have a clearer plan for my video when making it.

After doing this he showed us videos which he had made - this was very helpful to me because he explained all the processes that he did to achieve the end result. It also gave me ideas on camera angle shots and areas which have good backgrounds to film. After doing this we were set a task to create our own short video by the end of the day.

I was in the group with Sian and Dannie - our idea was School Uniform and peoples opinions on it. The first thing I did was make a spider diagram of ideas for the video. Questions that could be asked on the topic, people that we could film and places that we would film. To do this we had to consider the people who were going to be in the video shared the same point of view on the strict school rules on uniform. I want this video to clearly show my point of view - that this school is too concerned about the school uniform and too strict on aspects of it. However, I also needed to consider the issues that this may cause any staff that we used because they represent our school and should agree with the school rules (even if they don't believe them.)

The next thing that I need to consider is the questions that I will be asking. They need to be direct and get the answers that I want from the interviewe'. I drafted a variety of questions to ask and them compared them with the rest of the group. We then discussed which ones would be most suitable and relevant to our video. After doing this we made copies so we could give the people we are going to interview the questions to look at before we had to interview them so they were more prepared.

After this, we located where the teachers which we wanted to interview were and then went to ask them if they would be willing to participate in the video. I also told them that this video would only be shown within my diploma group so we didn't have to worry about any legal aspects when making this short video as a practice.

The next stage that I had to consider is how to interview the person. Batch then went through things that you need to do to shoot an effective and successful interview. I need to remember to keep the camera angle diagonally so that you can see some of the background to give the person watching the vide a sense of who the person is and what they do. Also, I need to remember to keep the camera at an even level so that you are not looking up or down at the person - you are at eye level which makes the interview clearer to watch.

I then went onto interviewing with the rest of the group - I think that this was a successful process because we got all the interviews filmed in a good time schedule so we then had more time to do the crucial part of editing the video. When editing the video we had to use the iMovie software - something which I have not used before. I think that I coped well with using this software with some guidance from Batch to show how to start editing some of the cutaways.

Finally, after my group had edited, cut down and put together all of the short film it was looking well made and professional. The next thing we did was add titles and captions - I found this part easy because I had adapted myself to this new software and was exploring all the features.

Today, I think that I have worked well in my team - we have discussed all the ideas for the video, arranged the interviews and times and also contributed ideas to how the film should be shot, edited and presented. Also, today I have shown strengths in using the iMovie software and am now able to use it for when i have to edit my own video. However, a weakness which I have found today is when using the program I found it quite difficult to cut some of the videos and then join them onto the next part. This then led to the final video having a few jolty parts. On the other hand, overall today I have worked well in taking positive criticism about my video ideas, worked well in a group and produced a high quality draft video at the end of this day.

record Module - 23rd June

Today I am going to be editing the film that I have done and recently shot.

Firstly, I uploaded my video to the program and then watched it through - i did this so I could see what the excess bits of footage which are not needed and irrelevant were. By doing thi
s I then reduced the footage time from 11 minutes to 2 minutes.

After i did this I ordered all of the footage - how old the puppies were so that I know the order to put the footage in.

Today is the second week of editing and filming. I need to upload and then edit the new film.
After doing this I will need to review my progress which I have made so far and then plan what I will need to get done by next week.

Today I think that I have organized my timing well, and organized my video well. I have learnt new ways into making viewing footage more time efficient, giving me more time to edit and select the footage.

Record Module - 16th June

Today I am planning to be uploading my video which I have been filming over the week of my puppies. I will then need to start editing my video using the apple mac software. This software is something which I have not used before and I will need to learn how to use all the different skills.

Firstly I uploaded my footage to the computer and before it has been edited it is 17 minutes long. I will need to crop and edit this so it is a suitable length. The first thing
that I have done is watch the footage through and started selecting the things that I can use.

Then next thing I did was select the background layout that I will use for my video. i looked at all the different possibilities that i could use and selected the best one which was a scrapbook layout.

After I did this I then selected the first video footage that I would use for the beginning of my
video and started cropping any excess footage that was un-interesting or I didn't need. At first I found it hard to crop the clips of video and found that the parts that I was deleting were making the rest of the clip jumpy and it didn't flow. However, after practicing a few times with the same clip I managed to crop it so it ran smoothly and looked professional. I then did this with all the different clips that I wanted to include into my video.

After I have edited the first half of my beginning, making sure there was no bad shots or unnecessary one's I could then add titles and captions to some if the clips. I did not know how to do this so I looked at all the different buttons on Imovie and worked out how to add text to a slide and different types of captions.

Today I think that I have worked well towards my goal and achieved it - I managed my timing well and also my strengths today were exploring with my equipment and finding out how to do different things. In addition to this I have been using IMovie which is something that I have not used before, i think that today I have worked well using this program and taught myself how to many of the different features on it.

PLATS;

RL2 - set goals for myself this week
RL3 - reviewed my progress that I have made so far.
SM2 - showed initiative when using the new software to make my video
EP2 - assessed what i need to do for next week and what I will be doing next week to improve.

Record Module - Plan

Today I have made a plan of the goal I will need to do for each week and what I did and achieved week by week. In addition to this I evaluated my strengths and weaknesses in each process. Also, today I made two mind maps on my final video choice; what it's like to be a girl.

19th May

I have chosen my final idea for my video so today I can now make plans and produce ideas for my video. This means I will be mind-mapping ideas and then putting detail into them. This means including images to give an idea about what the video will be about, where it will be filmed, the purpose of the film, who the audience is and other aspects such as how I am going to make it and the entertainment twist to the film if there is one.
after doing this I will go into more depth about the video and consider some more aspects of i and these will include:

- what am I going to do in this video
- The way i am going to film it
- location
- the purpose of my video
- who is going to star in my video
The second mind-map I am going to do is about how I'm going to make the video this will include things like:
- issues I need to consider when making the video
- legal issues
- equipment that I am going to use
- end editing
- hair, make-up and outfits
- software I am going to use
- the subjects in my film
- my time scale
- locations

Strengths:
I have worked well to produce a well detailed mind-map exploring all the aspects in my video. I have shown that I can explore all the relevant areas that are key to producing my video.

26th May

Today, Anthony Batchler - from citieye came to help develop our video ideas and explain to us how he makes them and come up with he ideas. Also, he showed us examples of his work and how he made them. Today we will also be making our own short video. this is so we can get used to working with the cameras, equipment, people and the technical side - this is the angles of the camera, the settings and positioning of the camera and also editing on the apple mac's. This will be the first time i use this software.
Strengths and weaknesses:
Today I have listened well to Anthony Batchler and learned lots of things that I will need to know when producing my own film.
Weaknesses that I have come across today are I need to further my skills when using the MAC software so that my video looks professional. However, I did learn how to edit footage together so it runs smoothly even though this will need practice.

9th June

Today I will be reviewing the decision for my final video and do some further planning into it. A
Today I will also need to consider the legal and health and safety issues when making my video. i will need to create forms for my subjects to sign so that i can show the footage of them.

I also need to create a storyboard with timings, locations and the people involved so i can start filming. To create my storyboard I set up the layout and then made a brief outline of what clips I want to make and information I want to include.
Strengths:
Today I think that I have worked well to further my planning and put together a storyboard of the film so I know what footage I will need to film and the information that I need to find out.

16th June

Today I need to review the progress which I have made so far and make sure that I know my targets for that day.
The next thing I will need to do is upload the footage which I should have filmed and then i can start editing it. Also, in the afternoon I need to plan what I need to shoot for next week and organize it.

23rd June

Today is the second week of editing and filming. I need to upload and then edit the new film.
After doing this I will need to review my progress which I have made so far and then plan what I will need to get done by next week.

30th June

Today I will need to upload the new footage which I will have filmed - this is the final week for filming. I will then need to edit it. After doing this i will need to review my strengths and weaknesses so far and evaluate my progress. Then, i need to plan what I need to do next week. Also, Antony batchler will be coming in to review our progress and teach us some advanced editing skills to improve my work.

7th July

This is the final day for editing and checking that my video is well done. In the afternoon I will nee to add the credits, titles and backing tack that i want to put into my film. then i will review my progress and evaluate everything i have done so far this module.

14th July

Today I will be reviewing the films and evaluating them. I will then need to complete my blog and make sure my coursework for this work is handed-in.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
Throughout this planning process I have shown strengths that I can plan what I will need to do and achieve each week. Overall I have spread my time well and stated why I am doing these things at this time. I have ordered my work well and considered the time scale - have I given myself enough time to reach these goals?

RECORD MODULE COMPLETE!

PLATs;
IE5 - considered what I will be doing each week and the influence this will have on my video and what i will get done.

Record - Creative

Video Idea 1 Being a Teenager
My first idea is a short documentary about the typical life of a teenager. I think that this would be a good idea because it gives people an insight to what being a teenager is really like. I think that this video will help teenagers; they can realize these problems happen with other teenagers and they are not alone. In addition to this, teenagers will be able to empathize with this video.
I would film a teenager doing daily things for that they do and record all the things they do in their life for example - any clubs, activities and or social life. I would do this because it shows what they do in their day to day life. Basically, a teenagers daily life is boring and that is life however, sometimes it could be entertaining and an idea i have had is getting different teenagers, using the same time scale and showing how different people do different things for example; ways different people blow dry their hair.

I am going to aim this at male and female teenagers so it is relevant to both sex's.
Other youths on the Benchill estate
I would make this documentary between 5-10 minutes long. This documentary will cover what people really think about teenagers and what being one is really like.

This documentary would be for adults to see what being a teenager today is really like and also a teenager to show how similar a teenagers life is to each others. It will show moral stories and the tough options a teenager is faced with on a daily basis.

During this film I would need a lead person to play the teenager and they would star in this video. Also, this film would include other people at times as the main persons friends to show their social life.

I will devise a situation where somebody is peer pressured into doing something they don't want to do and they do it because their 'friends' pressure them into it. For this I would do it outside in a park because this is generally where teenagers go and hang out.
The teenager would be between 14-16 because this is the prime teenage years and as this is going on brookfield TV it will appeal to the majority of older students in the school.

Video Idea 2 How Popular Mobile Phones are:

Stock Photography: Man and Woman Talking by Mobile PhoneThis video would be a comical idea. It would be about how mobile phones are everywhere and everybody has and uses! Mobile phones are a social statement and also a daily part of life. As this is for Brookfield TV this is relevant because the school has recently allowed mobile phones. Mobile phones are also an unnecessary necessity - people panic if they don't have their mobile and some people cant live without their phone.

It would focus on 3 different generations of people and how they are all obsessed with mobile phones. For example - an elderly woman, a teenager and a young adult. I would show these 3 different generations because they vary and are all different but have one thing in common - mobile phones. I think this idea is good because the idea of an elderly person using a piece of modern technology would be comical. I would also use a range of different students within the ages of 13-18 because these are the ages when mobile phones are a huge part of a persons life. I would also use know people to our school like staff members and students.
Stock Photography: Group of Friends Taking a Picture TogetherIn addition to this, I would use shots from the streets and public places to show how people are everywhere, using their mobile phones.

I would research the history of a mobile and how every body feels like they need to have one and own the best design - I would do this by asking people there feelings on mobile phones and show short interviews on different opinions.

Video Idea 3 What its like to be a girl

This video will be about what it's like to be a girl, the challenges they have daily and what we really think as females.

It will include a video of 2 very different girls. One who is popular, has lots of friends and pretty. The second girl is going to be a loner who has hardly any friends. This shows the contrast of two people and how very different they are. This will have an impact on the audience and will be an interesting thing to view. Also, the 2 lives are going to be mirrored in a time scale and the video will switch between the two characters. This video is going to be a strong contrast between humor and serious issues of bullying and alienation - this is something that girls do to each other.

I hope that this video will be self reflective to make teenagers think about their own behavior. In addition I would like to make this film from the start - the stage where the two girls alarm clocks go off and through to the stage where they slam the door on the way out to school. In addition to this, the video will feature the girls voices of parents as they call up the stairs to their child or wake them up. You never see the parents in this video - it is a voice over. This is also going to explore the relationship between parents and the daughter...
*The lonely girl will have supportive, loving parents whilst the popular girl has an alcoholic father who is horrible. I think this will be a good twist in the video.

This video is going to be an insight into a girls life - all the things that happen. I would film some of this in a typical girls bedroom - showing the processes a teenage girl would go through every morning to get ready for school for example.

I plan to make this video because I think some people would find it interesting to know about a girls life in detail and give people an idea of what it's really like. This video will be serious and also funny - showing happy and sad elements in the video.

Video Idea 4 The most annoying celebrities!

This video is going to be about all the different celebrities that have been hot in the media for having mixed reactions - you either love them or hate them! I would do this by selecting up to 8 celebrities which people find annoying.
For example a celebrity idea would be justin Bieber - a singer who is loved and hated by many people. I would interview people about their opinions on the people i am going to use. I would then include a clip of Justin Bieber and record myself saying... do you think this is annoying?
I plan to make this video entertaining and comic - also having a sarcastic element showing clips of the celebrities I will be including - giving evidence why they are so annoying. Also, I am going to do flip sides of a celebrity - the good side ( a good image of the celebrity ) showing them doing something positive and looking glamorous. In contrast to this, i will then show the flip side of the celebrity, a bad picture showing them for example; falling out of a taxi and being sick. This will give the viewers strong feelings about the images and the video towards the celebrities.

In this video, I am also going to show more celebrities in the video who have been in the media eye a lot. I am also going to do a disclaimer - make up things which are not real and make interesting thing up to get the viewers of this video excited and talking about it - generating more publicity for Brookfield TV. For example... I will show a shot where it says - Do you love Justin Bieber?
Well did you know he had a sex change and is really a girl!

I am making this video because I think that this topic would relate to everybody and i would have a lot to talk about - I will get a lot of information on this topic and opinions from a number of people.

Video Idea 5 A dog isn't just for christmas

This video is going to be about following a puppies life fro the day its born into its senior years. By making this video I hope to give an insight into the shocking truth about how people think a puppy will never grow up and isn't hard work.

To do this I will be filming puppies in different stages as they grown and in different areas . For example; when they are a few days old and in their cage then when they are a few months old and playing in the garden.

I am making this video because I would like to show people how hard it is to have a dog and then show facts and statistics to shock the audience and show the real truth behind owning a dog.

Evaluation/Feasibility Study
I am now going to think and consider the difficulty levels it is going to be to produce these videos if it will be possible and I am also going to have to consider different elements before I take my planning further and make my final decisions. The type of things that I am going to have to consider are;
*Costs - I am working within a budget and I need to consider all the elements and materials I am going to need to source for this. I am going to have to see if I can use materials that are available at school and if I can borrow materials from people.
* Time - I need to consider my time scale and plan out what I need to do every week because I have a set deadline. If I choose a topic which is going to take a long time and is going to be difficult for me to do within in this time frame I either need to shorten the video - cutting ideas or choose another idea.
* Equipment - I need to make sure that I have all the correct equipment that I need to do this video and make a list of the things I will need to source for this video.
* Actors - I am going to need to source where I am going to get the people I need for my video and audition them to make sure they are right for the role in my video.
* Copyright - I also need to consider any elements that could be problematic for me during my filming and presenting the video stage and look at any thing that I have done which could be copyright.
* Legality - I need to consider the legal elements in my film. Is there anything inappropriate that will be shown on the the Brookfield TV?
* Locations - I need to decide all the possible places I could go to film for example; the beach, the woods, school and many more areas. I also need to consider if this will be a good place to film parts of my video.
* Transport - I have considered the transport issues to get to places where I can film and source materials, I know that transport is not an issue because we have the school mini bus.
* Own production skills - I need to assess what I can do with my camera, things I already know how to do and things I need to be taught and learn how to do. For example lighting, things I can do to improve the lighting when filming.
* How able am I - I also need to consider how well I can do things and if I have the abilities to do the things that I plan to do for the video.
* Editing software - I also need to know about the apple mac software for the process when I edit the videos and if I am able to do this without assistance.
* Worth watching - Is my video going to be exciting, well presented, targets the audience and is something which appeals to people so they will watch it.
* Suitability for the audience - I need to consider which video I am going to do so I can choose if it is suitable for the audience i have made it for and the age range - is there anything inappropriate in my video?
* Overall Purpose - I also need to consider what I want my video to do, what effect I want it to have on the audience and the reason I am making this video - Is it to make people aware of something?

Strengths and weaknesses:
Today I think that I have worked well to come up with feasible video ideas and after thinking of the ideas I then researched into them and considered all of the aspects of making, planning and producing the video. I have shown strengths in doing this and have shown i can research and produce evidence into all the different video ideas.

PLATS;
I have undertook a wide ranging investigation into the types of video I will consider doing and explain if they will be relevant and possible to do

IE1 - identified the specification for what we will be doing in this module
1E2 carried out wide ranging research into possible ides for a video.
IE5 - considered the influences the videos will have on an audience
CT1 - generated ideas and explained them thuroughly.
RL4 asked about feedback on my ideas
